Sustaining Sandplain Grassland
This section addresses experiences with management designed to maintain or enhance areas that currently are sandplain grasslands. Burning describes experiences with the use of prescribed fire; Mowing describes experiences with the use of mowing; and Vegetation Removal covers experiences with removal of woody and non-native, invasive, or undesired vegetation in existing grasslands. Grazing addresses experiences with the use of grazing animals to either maintain existing sandplain grasslands or reduce shrub cover in areas in which more grass- and forb-dominated vegetation is desired.
The management approaches contain descriptions of case histories that describe results of some of the larger or better-documented approaches to management in each of the categories.
